The Alliance for Sustainable Colorado is the organization at the confluence of sustainability in our state, and The Alliance Center is our living example of sustainability in action. This is core to what we do: amplifying the impact of organizations changing our state for the better, while maintaining our leading-edge of the sustainability movement.
The whole idea behind this site it that sustainability at some level is within our reach. Sure, we’ll all still have to buy things at the grocery store. And maybe some aspects of living a more self-reliant lifestyle just aren’t your cup of tea. But look around your home or your office. There’s so much room for improvement. And that’s what brought me here.
Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council
The Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council (COFSAC), established through the LiveWell Colorado-initiated Senate Bill 10-106, is a legislatively-mandated, volunteer-based, 15-member body of state agencies and diverse food systems stakeholders. The COFSAC held its first meeting in January 2011 and has met at least quarterly since (see 2014 meeting schedule under About COFSAC).

The Healthy Communities Coalition is comprised of professionals, advocates, community members and leaders who are committed to fostering health among all residents in Eagle County. Currently, coalition initiatives are focused around healthy eating and active living.

Sowing Seeds – Walking Mountains Science Center
For seven years, Sowing Seeds has introduced young students in Eagle County to the world of gardening, healthy eating and environmental stewardship. Stem by stem, leaf by leaf, hundreds of children have learned a valuable lesson: that time, patience, and constant care create amazing results. Since its inception, Sowing Seeds has been owned and managed by the Vail Valley Foundation’s YouthPower365. It was originally conceived by, and has since been strongly supported by, celebrity chef Kelly Liken. In August of 2017 Walking Mountains Science Center officially adopted Sowing Seeds as an in-school and summer camp program.

UpRoot Colorado was founded by Ciara Low and David Laskarzewski, covering the Western Slope and part of the Front Range in Colorado. They work to reduce on-farm surplus that may not be utilized through volunteers efforts to glean. The collected produce is distributed to families in need throughout their regions. Ciara has been an advisor to the New Roots CO team for potential gleaning operations in Eagle County.
It comes as a surprise to no one that the Vail Valley is a remarkable place. The Vail Valley Foundation is a non-profit organization that enhances the quality of life in the Vail Valley through arts, athletics, and education.
The Vail Valley Service Extension Unit of the Salvation Army provides emergency services and strives to meet human needs, in an effort to promote self-sufficiency
